Alkemii was born from a deeply personal understanding that hair is never just hair.
I first experienced hair loss at 16, and I know how profoundly it can affect confidence, identity and the way you see yourself.
In 2013, I had a hair transplant, something I have always been open about, and that experience shaped not only my relationship with hair, but my entire career.
I went on to become an international hair colourist, working across beauty, fashion, editorial and wellness. Over the years, I have worked with people at every stage of their hair journey: those experiencing shedding, thinning, hormonal changes, stress-related hair changes, health-related hair loss and the quiet fear that comes when your hair no longer feels like your own.
By 2022, after being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, I experienced another major period of hair loss. At that point, I thought I might need a second hair transplant. Instead, I began looking deeper. I started researching the many factors that influence hair health, hormones, stress, inflammation, nutrition, lifestyle and the scalp environment and began building what would become the Alkemii Protocol: a system designed to support hair from within, at the scalp and through consistent daily ritual.

early inspiration
This came from my research trips to Japan and Korea, where I became fascinated by the relationship between marine algae, longevity culture and beauty rituals. In particular, Okinawa, one of the world’s best-known Blue Zones and recognised for exceptional longevity, sparked my curiosity around the role of seaweed and marine botanicals within traditional diets and daily life. That curiosity led me to explore marine botanicals more deeply, particularly their polyphenols, polysaccharides and potential role in supporting hair and scalp biology.

research
I then took this research to SINTEF in Norway, where we explored the remarkable potential of polyphenols found in European marine algae. Alongside further research connected to the University of Birmingham, these findings helped shape the scientific foundation of Alkemii.

The Study
From there, we developed a study plan with Eurofins in Paris, specialists in hair biological science, to test our findings on isolated human hair follicles. The study assessed key biomarkers associated with follicle activity, growth signalling, cellular renewal and the hair follicle environment.

The results
They helped create our patent-pending Pi-7 Complex™: Alkemii’s proprietary marine polyphenol complex, developed to power the next generation of hair longevity.
This is haircare with a longer view.
Alkemii is not about panic, shame or overnight promises. It is about education, ritual & science.
The name Alkemii comes from transformation: taking something difficult, painful or deeply personal and turning it into something purposeful. For me, hair loss became the starting point for a brand created to help others feel more informed, supported and empowered in their own hair journey.
